6G-MIRAI-HARMONY: 6G-MIRAI (EU) & HARMONY (Japan)
6G-MIRAI-HARMONY is the EU-JP cross-regional 6G research project. Based on the EU-Japan third Digital Partnership Council (held May 2025 in Tokyo), the EC announced: „The partners agreed to expand their cooperation on beyond 5G/6G research, with a focus on the joint project 6G MIRAI-HARMONY which aims to develop AI powered networks for user-focused communications.“
For the collaboration on advancing AI-native wireless communication systems, EU 6G-MIRAI and Japan’s HARMONY project have the defined the following three pillars:
1. Research: academic exchange, workshops, etc.
Latest status: On February 24, 2026, Dr. Renato L. G. Cavalcante (Fraunhofer HHI) delivered a tutorial on resource allocation for wireless networks for EU 6G-MIRAI and Japan HARMONY, showing how fixed point theory in Thompson and Hilbert projective metric spaces enables a systematic derivation of optimal algorithms for joint power control, beamforming, and site selection within a unified framework. The presented theory, which also finds applications in other fields — including machine learning –, is an elegant example of how advanced mathematical tools can provide efficient and scalable solutions to complex wireless system design problems.
2. (Pre-)Standards: interaction on research topics with standards relevance
Latest status: On March 4, 2026, JP HARMONY and EU 6G-MIRAI with presentations by KDDI, Kyocera, University of Tokyo (HARMONY) and Ericsson, Telefonica, Apple (6G-MIRAI) launched the discussion on the targeted project results which are relevant for 3GPP RAN1, RAN2, SA2, the AI-RAN alliance and XGMF. The work will be synchronised again at the next 6G-MIRAI-HARMONY plenary co-located with EuCNC 2026, Malaga.

3. PoC / datasets: cooperation on datasets, methodology, etc.

Collaborate with 6G-MIRAI-HARMONY to explore groundbreaking AI-native wireless solutions for the future of connectivity.
