Shaping AI Native 6G Innovation: Sequans Joins Europe–Japan Collaboration in the 6G MIRAI Program
Blog / press release by our partner Sequans
6G-MIRAI-HARMONY @ EuCNC 2026:
International Cooperation for AI-Native RAN Workshop !
6G-MIRAI-HARMONY co-organized a landmark workshop at the EuCNC & 6G Summit 2026. As 6G moves from definition to early realization, the shift toward AI-native RAN is a game-changer. Global experts from the EU, UK, US, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Brazil, and Africa discussed:
– AI/ML-based use cases for future RAN.
– Advanced experimental platforms for AI/ML.
– Cross-regional collaboration on interoperable and sustainable 6G AI/ML infrastructures.

Towards the project review
Fourth 6G-MIRAI-HARMONY plenary meeting
On Oct. 8 and 9 2026 the project partners came together for a F2F plenary meeting kindly hosted by Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute HHI in Berlin. The agenda featured a welcome message by HHI followed by the project coordinator providing a recap of the project’s status. The consortium had a highly interactive discussion on the architecture blueprint across the AI-native air interface (WP1) and AI-enabled RAN control (WP2) work packages. We also completed the alignment on the benchmark scenarios across all technical WPs 1, 2 and 3). On Day 2 the project partners finalised the planning for the up-coming mid-term review incl. a discussion of „lessons learned“ and an update to the required risk assessment. The WP4 lead summarised the status (KPIs) of the dissemination & communication and the way forward in the upcoming second period, in particular wrt. Eu-Japan cooperation activities.

6G-MIRAI-HARMONY (EU) presenting in JAPAN
AI in 6G air interface keynote at ICETC in Osaka
Adrian Garcia Rodriguez from Ericsson Research France delivered a keynote on the role of AI in the 6G air interface at the International Conference on Emerging Technologies for Communications (ICETC) 2025 in Osaka, Japan. The talk summarized the 3GPP standardization developments, Ericsson 6G positions and shared some early results from the 6G-MIRAI-HARMONY project illustrating the performance of an AI/ML physical layer functionality when trained and evaluated with real-world measurement data.

6G-MIRAI-HARMONy: the EU-JP cross-regional 6G research project
EU and Japan reinforce tech and digital partnership
The EU and Japan held their third Digital Partnership Council in Tokyo to reinforce tech and digital cooperation between the EU and Japan. The SNS-JU 6G-MIRAI-HARMONY project is prominently featured in the press release: „the partners agreed to expand their cooperation on beyond 5G/6G research, with a focus on the joint project 6G MIRAI-HARMONY which aims to develop AI powered networks for user-focused communications.“

6G-MIRAI-HARMONY @ EUCNC & 6G Summit 2025
Special Session on Research Collaborations beyond Europe towards 6G
6G-MIRAI-HARMONY had the opportunity to present both the Japanese (Prof. Nakao) and the European (Dr. Cavalcante) part of the 6G-MIRAI-HARMONY project at EuCNC, and discuss with other projects (NGI Transoceanic, 6GARROW) the specific challenges (e.g., alignment) and opportunities (e.g., societal benefits) for cross-region cooperations.

6G-MIRAI-HARMONY @ AI for Good 2025
ML in Communication Networks workshop
The 6G-MIRAI-HARMONY approach of making the AI native design of 6G air interface and RAN practical and develop reliable and robust AI/ML techniques for both cellular and cell-free networks was presented by Henning Sanneck at the AI for Good 2025 ML in Communication Networks workshop, highlighting our cross-regional EU-Japan approach.
